A Brief Bio
Jen Waters was born in Montreal, Canada and grew up in Lorraine, a suburb north of the city. She earned her BFA at Concordia University in 1997. From 1998 to 2003 she developed her painting practice in Toronto. During this time she worked at Sistering, a drop-in center for disenfranchised women, as well as at A-Space gallery, where she served on the programming committee, juries and co-coordinated the exhibition In –Between. Before pursuing her MFA at Parsons the New School for Design in New York, she mounted exhibitions in Montreal, Toronto, Chicago and St. John’s, Newfoundland.
Since graduating with the MFA in 2005, Jen has maintained her studio practice and currently bartends for sustenance and socialization. Additional art related work include ongoing studio assistance to artist Mira Schor and teaching drawing in the HEOP program at Newschool University. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn.
